Shade

The shade is a fairly elusive creature, named not for what it is but where it hides. It is a spirit by nature, coming out at night to scavenge and hiding in shadows in the daytime. There are a few examples of shades coming out during the day, the most obvious of which is the shade and Etherial and Wolfe managed to rip from Wolfe's body (before it infused with Etherial's light, becoming the Smiley Face Killer).

For the most part, they will speak English, however they do have their own language, which nobody has ever heard or named, aside from a few silent whisperings intended to frighten.

Shades do have their own names, but they refrain from using anything to do with shadows or darkness. Their names are in their own tongue, and are unpronounceable, so they adopt English translations, usually including "The" (such as The Red Baron) at the beginning and roman numerals at the end. For example, Wolfe's shade was named "The Locust Swarm II". Many Shades names have roman numerals reaching the hundreds, as they have a long standing tradition of naming themselves after other Shades (Similar to Popes).

History

Nobody knows the true nature of the Shade, but it is widely speculated they were simply born out of neglect, as opposed to Light entities. The sun shone brightly on the world in it's creation, creating light areas and dark areas, and certain areas of the world, simply put, never get bathed in sunlight. And certain areas never went dark. Both these extremes spawned their own entities, Lights and Shades. Lights were born of love, while Shades were born of jealousy. They are not hating creatures, they are misunderstood. They love to cause playful mischief. Similar to poltergeists. They only wish for the affection that their counterparts receive. This knowledge was learned from Wolfe himself, who, after separating his shade from his body, questioned it at great length. This is why the Shade never left the Complex, and later infused with Etherial's Light.

Infusion

The infusion of the Light and the Shade was an interesting happenstance. It is the first documented case and has caused quite a controversy. The Light and the Shade are in permanent struggle for dominance. This brings out the Shades more violent side, however, after stabbing you, he is very likely to apologize.
