Alex Van Leyen's the name, fiction's my game! I've been drawing comics since I was 10, continuously working on improving my styles and techniques. When I look back on my older works, I often cringe and wonder what the heck I was thinking back then. That seems the be the general formula, isn't it?

The Project List

A Bit About Me

The world is a complicated place, which is why we use diagrams and images to replace one thousand word paragraphs in a sequential order. My mind is easily depicted in one such image - the image of a train wreck with more trains piling into it. I have ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder), and I take the last D in that acronym and bring it to a new level: I have to be the one of the most chaotic people you will ever meet. I'll have an idea, start running with it, then I'll trip, see something shiny, and then go with another idea without dropping the first one just yet. At the end of the day, my pockets are so full of things that weren't finished, it's a wonder I don't compete in the Olympics.

My parents divorced when I was little, leading to many important lessons in life. Those darker days really kicked some character into me, though I wouldn't say it defined me. Nothing can define me - I remain a three year-old's soul in an adult's body, constantly fighting with a maturing conscience. Wait a min- SHINY!

When I was little, I used to make small strips called "The Adventures of Speedy", which involved this little universe of anthropomorphic cats. It was by no means anything furry, cats were just fun to draw. Later on, I discovered Legend of Dragoon for the Play Station. Like many other kids, I ended up infatuated with the game, even to the point where I was making my own doujin for it. At this time, Drake was conceived, one of the main cast members that was carried over to the new world called Dragoon Rage some time later. Several other characters were created while working on the earlier doujin, however their existence in the new comic is yet to be confirmed. Aside from Drake, Zack was a personal favorite of mine - he was just a normal guy that liked to explore. I believe, when I started on Dragoon Rage, Zack evolved into my own persona. Those were some good times, haha.

Career

In short, I'm only at the start of mine. Before starting at college, it was a split between art or computers. I ended up choosing computers, and reinforced my decision by investigating the workload involved in the art classes. I cannot say that I have regretted my decision at all now. Now graduated, it has been an amazing adventure across the hazardous learning curve, complete with Dragons, Smurfs and a Platypus. Who knows what lays beyond - I'm hoping one day I'll find myself working with Nintendo, or Square Enix.
